Lignite is a solid fossil fuel that is mostly used for power generation. Reducing the moisture content of lignite prior to its utilization can increase its calorific value, reduce the cost of its long distance transport and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its utilization. Drying is also a typical pre-requisite for technologies aiming to produce high-added value products from lignite.
